The disease will impact 1 of every 8 American women during their lifetime. Breast cancer does not discriminate by race, ethnicity, economic status or age. Nearly all of us know someone – wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend – who has been impacted by this devastating illness.

Knowing the toll this illness takes on the lives of our associates and customers, Kroger is stepping up its commitment to finding a cure for this deadly disease and helping women and their families find the treatment and resources to face their illness head on.
Investing $2.5 million
With the help of key vendor partners who share our commitment to eradicating this disease, the Kroger family of stores once again will be Giving Hope A Hand by investing $2.5 million for breast cancer awareness, treatment and research. Throughout the month of October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – specially marked pink tags will line the shelves of your local store, marking the hundreds of participating national-brand
and banner-brand products that are supporting this important cause.
Giving a Hand
Funds raised by the annual cause-marketing campaign will assist dozens of local organizations fighting breast
cancer in our communities across the country – supporting research projects, funding mammograms and
educational outreach, and assisting local support groups for women and families. All of the funds are spent
in the communities where our customers and associates live and work.
Thousands join the fight.
Thousands of Kroger associates across the country join in the fight – as volunteers and participants at dozens
of fundraising events in the communities we serve, including the Susan G. Komen For the Cure’s Race for the
Cure(R) events and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer(R) program.
Breast Cancer By The Numbers
- Estimated 180,000 women will be newly diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

- More than 2 million women are survivors of breast cancer.

- Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women, behind lung cancer.
- When it is detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95%.
